One word - WOW!!!

Thank you Mark for reassuring me that it is not only legitimate, but entirely Biblical, to express anger and frustration at God for the trials and tribulations that life throws at us. This is a message that I needed toi hear, in order to counter the happy-clappyness mesaage that God deserves constant praise that I normally get at church. God bless you Mark and all that you do, you are a gift to the people of Salford.

Thanks for this - a strong message which showed that the doubts which frequently assail my sceptical mind are nothing to be afraid of and that its is alright to live with unanswered questions, particularly regarding the problem of suffering which was addressed in this talk. I look forward to the rest of this series.

I really enjoyed this - a much needed, biblically-based message about tolerance of those who do not share our beliefs and what we can learn from them. Pete Brierley's story about the young boy who liked Egyptian artefacts and Doctor Who was really touching. The kids down in Waterloo are lucky to have this guy in charge of their spiritual development.

A nice, short sermon in which Mark explains the purpose that ritual in general and the communion ritual in particular play in our lives. Reminded of the Last Supper as Mark spoke on the meaning of communion, I felt a strong sense of gratitude to Christ for what He did on behalf of mankind, so thank you Mark.

In yet another inspirational piece of preaching, Mark puts forward a grand vision for the future of Salford Central Church when it makes its long-awaited move to its proposed new building. It is my hope and prayer that the vision described so eloquently here will become a reality, for the benefit of both the church and the residents of the community that surrounds it.

Comment on Summer Psalms 4 - Wow Moments by Matthew

Wow moments? This entire sermon is a wow moment in itself. Using Psalm 96 as a basis, Jessie Greer quite brilliantly lays forth first how the earth and the solar system are precisely set up to support life, then demonstrates the wonder and magnificence of the universe and of the God who created it. Jessie is truly gifted and she HAS to extend her youth work at the church to the new Academy in some way. This was a fantastic talk which I could listen to repeatedly and never get bored. However, while I appreciate the inclusion of the graphics which support the sermon, an alternative version in mp3 format would be useful, so I could store it on my mp3 player and listen again at my leisure.

In his usual witty and engaging style, Mark Hamill unpacks Psalm 137, a Psalm better known for being the basis of the 1978 disco track 'Rivers of Babylon' by Boney M. Mark successfully shows how this Psalm is relevant both to the current situation of Salford Central Church and wider contemporary world affairs, finally using verses 8 & 9 of the Psalm to examine the problem of suffering. An informative look at what may be termed a 'pop' Psalm.

A great end to an excellent series which has deepened my understanding of the Sermon on the Mount. I particularly appreciated Mark's oblique reference to the controversy over Steve Chalke's book 'The Lost Message of Jesus'. I very much look forward to the upcoming series of talks on the Psalms.
